Lunar New Year - A page from the book 'Views of Mt Fuji'

15.00

When the famous Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) started the series 36 Views of Mount Fuji in 1830 he was seventy years old and at the peak of his creativity and artistic vigor. This print was created as part of a book containing preliminary sketches and designs that would later feature in Hokusai’s landmark and best known series of prints.

This little reproduction print (15.5cm x 14cm) was made to commemorate the upcoming Lunar New Year - 2019 is year of the Pig. However, this print can stand alone as a great example of intricate workmanship that went into producing not just a series as well known as Hokusai’s famous Views of Mt Fuji series, but also the preliminary work leading up to this seminal piece of work.

The print is carved into Japanese Cherry woodblocks (Yama Sakura) and printed, by hand onto hand made Japanese Kitaro Kizuki mulberry paper.

Each print is embossed with my name and comes wrapped in a piece of decorative Japanese tissue paper and contained within a card wrap with the name of the print, as well as a short explanation on is background an origin.

All orders will ship every Saturday at 9am UK time.
